Heriot-Watt is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all staff and students. However, should any issues arise, there are a number of University services available in order to allow students, staff and visitors to feel supported.

SafeGuarding Services

Heriot-Watt SafeGuarding Services play a vital role in keeping Heriot-Watt campuses safe, for all students, staff and visitors by delivering a strong care and support service.

SafeGuarding Services operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. SafeGuarding officers are the first responders to any incidents which may arise. All officers are first aid and mental health first aid trained and can deal with any situation to support staff and students.

SafeGuarding officers are based at the Edinburgh campus and at the Jean Muir Student Village in Galashiels and can be easily identified by their bright blue jackets.

You can contact SafeGuarding for support or general advice by calling 0131 451 3500 (Edinburgh campus) or 07823 326242 (Jean Muir Student Village). You can also use any of the red phones located around the Edinburgh campus.

You can also contact SafeGuarding using the SafeZone app.

SafeZone is a free app-based system for students and staff. SafeZone extends the reach of campus safety and security, to cater for the real-time needs of the people who use campus every day.

The app allows you to send a location-based alert from your smartphone or tablet to SafeGuarding Services whenever you need an immediate emergency response, first aid or any other general assistance.

You can download the SafeZone app from the App Store.
